I went to SCBWI-Alaska’s Big Thaw writing retreat last weekend. The retreat was the main attraction, but the other one was the location: Sustina River Lodging near Talkeetna, Alaska.
Talkeetna’s main claim to fame is its proximity to Denali, our tallest mountain. Many climbing expeditions catch bush planes from here to start their ascent. But it’s also a charming little town with a mining, trapping, and homesteading past. You can spend time enjoying the little shops and restaurants along Main Street, then look out over the Susitna River at stunning views of Denali if you catch a sunny day like we did. Here are a few photos for you.
