Happy Thanksgiving!

Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday, because it’s simple. It focuses on being thankful for what we have, and on two universal things: food and loved ones. Food, especially traditional dishes like the ones at Thanksgiving, is a great way to share our heritage and enjoy deliciousness with others. Family, whether the traditional one or whatever combination of loved ones we have, is what makes life most enjoyable. Combining the two for a whole day in my own home is a highlight of the year for me.

I love to cook, and Thanksgiving dinner is both a time for nostalgia and cause for celebration. At my house, we always have turkey with cornbread stuffing, cranberry sauce, special mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, pumpkin and chocolate pie. A few additional side dishes change, and the number of people varies. But the love is always there. This year, my daughter and son-in-law are home from the Peace Corps, so I am extra thankful. We’ll have a room full of family and friends. And it looks like we’ll have snow here, too, which will make it pretty outside. My heart is full of gratitude.

However you celebrate Thanksgiving, may your day be full of joy, love, peace, and happiness.

I love to share my passion for Alaska and its history in my writing for young adults and their grown ups.
