Happy Teen Tober!

YALSA (Young Adult Library Services Association) TEENtober What will you discover at the library? www.ala.org/yals/teentober

What is Teen Tober, you ask? It’s a celebration of teens and teen library services sponsored by YALSA (Young Adult Library Services Association, a division of the American Library Association).

Here in Alaska, we are fortunate to have many libraries that serve young adults. School libraries offer great programs to help teens with their studies and with recreation reading. For example, Anchorage’s West Romig Library’s Education and Career section offers info about test prep and college and career choices. Public libraries often have teen-oriented programs, including Homer Public Library’s art activities for teens and tweens.

Anchorage Public Library has the Teen Underground room in the Loussac branch, with several events and activities just for young adults. Right now, it’s taking submissions for its first teen zine. I’m hosting the last writing workshop to help writers get ready—just drop by between 3:00 and 5:00 pm on Saturday, October 12. If you’re interested in submitting artwork, check out artist MK’s workshop 6:00-8:00 pm on October 15. Submit short stories, poems and more on the theme “My Alaska” by October 31. Learn more at https://www.anchoragelibrary.org/services/services-for/teens/teen-zine/.
