If you comment on this site, you will be entered in a drawing for a box of Alaska Wild Berry Chocolates! (Please include your email or other contact info.)
Since I’m interested in Alaska history, I had to borrow my recipe from a vintage cookbook, A Collection of Choice Recipes compiled by the Anchorage Womans Club in Anchorage Alaska in 1921, reprinted by the club in 1990. And because my novel Fools Gold will be released in December, I chose the Gold Cake. Enjoy!
Gold Cake
Cream 1/2 cup butter
1 cup sugar added slowly
Beat 1 whole egg and 4 yolks until light
Add extracts of 1-3 almond
1-3 vanilla and beat well
Alternate 1/2 cup milk with 1 3/4 cups flour sifted with 2 teaspoons baking powder and beat quickly. Bake in oblong pan in moderate oven [350 degrees] 20 to 25 minutes.

P.S. Catherine won the box of Wild Berry Chocolates. Thanks for participating! 🙂

My wife and I celebrated our 25th anniversary this month. I can’t take her on a trip to Alaska, but a box of chocolates would score me some great points…at least that’s what she tells me!
