Read for the Fun of It!

We read for many reasons, but one of the best is for the fun of it. “Read for the fun of it!” is the theme for Teen Read Week, October 9-15.   Teen Read Week, sponsored by YALSA (Young Adult Library Service Association) is a national adolescent literacy initiative. It encourages teens to be regular readers and library users with library activities, a blog, and more. Check it out at http://teenreadweek.ning.com.

October is also Star Wars Reads month. Who doesn’t love Star Wars, either the original trilogy or its contemporary counterpart? So let’s use that force for good, and celebrate reading with Star Wars. There are activities going on around the country, and some fun posts and resources on the Star Wars website and Star Wars Reads Facebook page. You can learn more at http://www.starwars.com/news/star-wars-reads-2016.

And for an extra bit of fun, see this video clip of Ashley Eckstein, the Founder of Her Universe, the first merchandise line made exclusively for female Star Wars fans, talking about the appeal of Star Wars at http://www.starwars.com/news/star-wars-reads-day-ashley-eckstein.

May the Force be with you. And go read for the fun of it!

I love to share my passion for Alaska and its history in my writing for young adults and their grown ups.
