As you may know, I joined the YARC (Year of the Asian Reading Challenge) for 2019. My goal is to read ten books by Asian or Asian-descent authors. So it was serendipity when I was asked to moderate for an appearance by Sherry Thomas, and she became my first Asian author of the year!
According to her bio, Sherry Thomas “immigrated to the United States from China when she was thirteen and taught herself English in part by devouring science fiction and romance novels.” No wonder she writes so well! She writes whatever kind of book she feels like at the time, so her novels range from YA fantasy to historical romance to mystery.
I checked out two books from the library to prepare for the author appearance, The Perilous Sea and My Beautiful Enemy. The first day, I read half of the first one! Sherry sucks you in with her characters and world building, and the plot won’t let you put the book down!
I highly recommend Sherry Thomas, and look forward to meeting her soon!
For those of you in Alaska, Sherry will speak at the Anchorage Loussac library on Thursday, Feb. 7 at 6:30 pm, and the Eagle River library on Saturday, Feb. 9 at 3:00 pm. Everyone is welcome!
